Post Office management won't attend public meeting

by isleofman.com 22nd January 2015

Post Office chief executive Mike Kelly says there is no point attending a public meeting in Ramsey over the closure of the Parliament Street branch.

The local authority has organised the meeting, on January 29, as pressure grows to keep the branch open. More than 300 people took part in a protest march against the closure, and planned move to a sub- post office in a Spar shop, at the weekend.

In a letter to Ramsey Commissioners' clerk Peter Whiteway, Mr Kelly points out that the Post Office has been talking to staff and union representation, and that the commissioners have signed a non- disclosure agreement to enable both sides to discuss alternative options including the local authority operating postal services itself. The closing date for alternative proposals is March 2.

Mr Kelly writes that as talks are continuing 'the board does not believe it is appropriate for the board or officers of Isle of Man Post Office to attending the public meeting on 29th January as there is no further information to provide at this stage.'
