Neighbourhood vigilance vital, says force

by isleofman.com 23rd January 2015

A burglary in Kirk Michael reported yesterday (Thursday) evening brings the total number of burglaries and attempted break-ins to 37 in the past fortnight.

It's thought the culprits had broken into the property in Faaie ny Cabbal sometime over the previous two days.

Inspector Derek Flint said: 'Whilst there is a lot of understandable public concern over these offences, we need to make sure that people understand that the chances of becoming a victim really do remain very small here on the Island.

'That chance is further diminished by what we are seeing – people becoming more security conscious, and that vitally important neighbourhood vigilance. Neighbours are definitely keeping more of an eye out for each other, and letting us know about anything untoward.

'Please keep the information coming in. We are out there waiting to respond to your call.'

A crime prevention surgery is being held tomorrow (Saturday) between 12noon and 2pm at the Strand shopping centre in Douglas, where police oficers will be giving advice.
