Julie Watterson is the first to admit that when it comes to winning competitions she has always been something of a loser but it seems her luck has changed and as a result she and her family will be enjoying a ?1000 holiday prize later this year.
“My Gran died on January 7 and five days later I heard I had won this holiday in a competition on Facebook so I think I may have inherited her winning streak and she was up there looking after me,” said Julie, 32, who lives in Colby.
Julie, a property manager with Douglas estate agents DeanWood who is married with two children, added: “She was the luckiest woman I know and seemed to win everything she entered for so I’m now keeping my fingers crossed for the future.”
The competition ‘Get Away from Home’ was conceived by leading marketing and design agency Home Strategic. The strategy was to discover if Douglas-based Home could get a message to everyone who is on Facebook in the Isle of Man.
“A ?1000 holiday competition felt like the right offering and we managed to get it in front of 99 per cent of the island,” said Home’s business development director Lee McLellan.
He added: “This competition proved that with the right strategy a company can get fantastic engagement on Facebook. We would like to thank all those who took part and special congratulations to Julie and we hope the holiday will give her and her family a well deserved break.”
While Julie hankers after a trip to Disneyworld in Paris she admits that the reality is more likely to be a week in the Lake District. “My husband Mark and I enjoy outdoor pursuits, so do the children, and with ?1000 we know we can have a week’s really good holiday for four in a great location.”
