Minister supports Kirk Michael speed limit

by isleofman.com 28th January 2015

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne says he is in support of a 20mph speed limit through Kirk Michael - but says simply erecting the signs won't work.

Mr Gawne says restrictions need to be carefully considered to prevent drivers from disregarding traffic legislation. He was quizzed over the issue by constituency MHK Alf Cannan in the House of Keys earlier this week.

Mr Gawne said: 'It is incorrect to say I have rejected this idea. I do support a 20mph speed limit through Kirk Michael. I think it's a good idea and I'm in agreement with Alf Cannan on that. But just putting up a sign won't solve the problem on its own. We need to examine all the measures that could be taken to slow down the traffic through Kirk Michael.'
