Concern over road safety for elderly residents in Kirk Michael

by isleofman.com 28th January 2015
The MHK for Michael says he doesn't believe speed cameras would be effective on the Island.
Alf Cannan was speaking after he was told by Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne that there are no plans currently to introduce a 20 mph speed limit through the village and limit on its own won't solve speeding issues in the village.
He says what had started as a simple request for more signage has turned into a "convoluted discussion" about speed cameras, adjusting roads and what he says is an admission from the Minister that speed limits are useless unless cameras are installed.
Mr Cannan believes cameras would be very expensive and people in Michael are particularly concerned about road safety for older pedestrians in the village.
