Post Office public meeting tonight

by isleofman.com 29th January 2015

Policy and Reform Minister Chris Robertshaw will be at tonight's public meeting over the future of the Post Office branch in Ramsey.

There will be no Post Office representation, with PO chairman Graham Cregeen MHK saying that the board believes a public meeting is not the place to air or evaluate alternative proposals. The town's MHKs Allan Bell and Leonard Singer will not be there, citing previous commitments.

A three-month stay of execution was agreed after a public outcry, with strong opposition to the closure of the main branch and the creation of a sub-post office in a nearby Spar shop. Around 300 people attended a protest march (pictured) last weekend.

Ramsey comissioners' chairman Nigel Malpass said he was pleased to say tonight's meeting would have a full platform, and that he had received an email from the Chief Minister, offering his apologies for being off the island but emphasising his support for the people of Ramsey.

Mr Malpass said he was looking forward to seeing everyone 'for what will hopefully be a very productive evening that should identify a way forward that sees the Government, Post Office and most importantly people of the North satisfy their needs'

The meeting starts at 7pm in the west hall of Ramsey Grammar School.
