Another public meeting over Ramsey post office plans

by isleofman.com 29th January 2015
Ramsey residents and those in the wider north of the Island have another opportunity this evening (Thursday) to air their views over plans to relocate the town's crown post office.
A second public meeting has been called, this time by chairman of Ramsey Commissioners Nigel Malpass, and takes place at Ramsey Grammar School’s West building at seven o’clock.
There were heated scenes at the initial meeting in November when more than 400 protested about the move.
Plans to transfer the business of loss-making crown offices in Ramsey and Douglas to local Spar stores are currently on hold for three months for a review of options.
Both Ramsey MHKs, Chief Minister Allan Bell and Leonard Singer, are unable to attend tonight’s meeting due to long-held government commitments.
However, Mr Bell says work is continuing behind the scenes to look at other options.

With talks ongoing, it’s understood no senior post office officials will attend the meeting either, although there will be an address from the union head which represents postal workers.
Terry Pullinger, the national officer for the Communication Workers Union, will also hold a series of meetings in the Island today about the issue.
MHK Chris Robertshaw and senior civil servant Yvette Mellor from the Cabinet Office will attend this evening.
Manx Radio will be at Ramsey Grammar School this evening.
There will be reports in Ben Hartley’s late show this evening and in the late news, as well as an in-depth report in Mandate tomorrow (Friday) morning.
