Peel Commissioners have increased the town rate from 246 to 252 pence in the pound - an increase of 2.44%
The separate refuse charge will increase from ?169 to ?170 per dwelling which covers the incinerator gate fee costs, the Commissioner's contribution to the running of the Western Civic Amenity Site at St. Johns and the refuse collection contract.
The Commissioners says all local authorities face significant increases in costs as a result of Central Government transferring the cost of more services onto ratepayers and they will minimise certain of these costs, in particular refuse disposal, by urging residents to recycle more.
Additional new recycle stations will be established in Peel and the former swimming pool site on Marine Parade will be redeveloped for leisure purposes.
Meanwhile, efficiencies within Port Erin Commissioners have allowed the local authority to absorb increased waste charges, and hold rates at the same level.
Chairman Ged Power has been speaking to Manx Radio after it was revealed Port Erin ratepayers would pay the same amount, 288p, in the coming financial year.
So far, the only local authorities to not put up their rates are Castletown, Port Erin, Ramsey, and Braddan, which actually lowered its rate.
Mr Power says the freeze has been achieved thanks to a number of changes.
