Paul Beckett has been put forward by Liberal Vannin leader Kate Beecroft for a seat on the Legislative Council.
Mrs Beecroft says: 'It is rare for someone with such a track record to be nominated and I feel extremely honoured to be able to nominate Paul. He has been a LibVan member for some time but I believe that he will be a real asset not only to the Party but to the whole of the Isle of Man.
'A man with his qualifications and experience cannot fail to add to the legislative process and policy debates in Tynwald.'
Mr Beckett, 58, is a well known advocate, chairman of three tribunals, including financial services and data protection, and has been chairman of the legislation committee of the Isle of Man Law Society.
In a personal statement, he says: 'I believe that I have the professional skills and experience, the maturity and the strength of personality to carry the heavy responsibility which membership of the Legislative Council brings with it.
'From my time as Chairman of the Legislation Committee of the Isle of Man Law Society I have taken a keen interest in the work of Tynwald, and in recent years have on a voluntary basis assisted a number of Members in their promotion of and commentaries on new legislation. Most recently I co-authored the report of the Isle of Man Law Society on the draft Equality Bill.'
Mr Beckett has more than 35 years' experience as a lawyer, both within the international private banking and fiduciary services and in private practice.
He's married to Dr Lesley Stone and has two grown up children.
