Samaritans Isle of Man is inviting the local community to an open information session designed to advise potential volunteers on how they can help support their vital work.
The event, which takes place on Saturday 21st February, will see the Samaritans network discuss the many benefits of offering a sympathetic ear to those in need as well as outline the different ways in which they can help.
The open information session comes as Samaritans seek listening volunteers to meet increasing caller demand, particularly in the early hours, as well as fundraising volunteers and administrators.
New volunteers will receive full training, ongoing support and mentoring from friendly and experienced listeners.
The Samaritans have been serving the Island’s community for over thirty years, providing confidential, non-judgemental emotional support 24 hours a day. Over the years, they have helped countless people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which could lead to suicide.
Samaritans Isle of Man has over 70 volunteers from all age groups and all walks of life who primarily offer a listening service from the Samaritans centre in Victoria Place, Douglas. The Samaritans are also available 24/7 by phone on 0300 30 300 36, or by email at jo@samaritans.org.
If you think you could help, or are interested in finding out more about Samaritans Isle of Man volunteering, call the recruitment line on 07624 251505 or come along to St Ninian’s Church, Douglas on Saturday 21st February between 1300 and 1500.
