Another attempt on LegCo

by isleofman.com 24th February 2015

Backbench MHK Peter Karran is making another bid to introduce legislation that would result in the popular election of members of the Legislative Council.

He'll seek leave to introduce a bill in the House of Keys today, on the eve of LegCo elections. The term of four members is ending, with three of them announcing they won't stand again. The election is next month and only MHKs can nominate and vote in MLCs.

Mr Karran wants changes to come into force from 2018 that will also exclude MLCs from being Ministers or members of government departments, and wants pay and conditions to be amended.
