'Meek' government response to Labour leader

by isleofman.com 4th March 2015
A backbench MHK claims fellow offshore jurisdictions have ‘stolen a march’ on the Island in their response to Labour Leader Ed Miliband’s attack over tax avoidance.
Last month, Mr Miliband said if Labour wins May's general election he would impose a six month deadline on crown dependencies and offshore territories, including the Isle of Man, to 'show him the books'.
Nations such as Jersey and Bermuda moved swiftly to rebut what he said.
Michael MHK Alfred Cannan says, in stark contrast, the Manx government's response has been meek.
Although the government did not issue an official reply, Treasury Minister Eddie Teare last month brushed off the comments of Mr Milliband and said the Island complies with international standards on tax transparency and has nothing to hide.Clip 1
