101 new volunteers endured the weather for Beach Buddies

by isleofman.com 10th February 2016

Beach Buddies recruited another big number of new volunteers at the weekend, despite a downpour and gale force winds on Ramsey beach.

The charity had 101 new faces join them for a beach cleaning session when Ramsey Rugby Club junior players, club officials and parents joined Beach Buddies to clean around 1.5 miles of the beach.

The rugby volunteers were undeterred by heavy rain which fell pretty much constantly throughout the one hour session, gathering 19 bags of rubbish which was recycled afterwards by Beach Buddies.

“Every single person who turned out deserves credit,” said Beach Buddies spokesman Bill Dale. “It was appalling weather, but the young rugby players and their parents were determined not to be beaten by the weather.

“They did a great job and, best of all, said they wanted to come back again in the future. Hopefully, it will be slightly better weather next time!”

In all, there were 115 volunteers who all got absolutely soaked to the skin and were then very kindly treated afterwards by the rugby club to hot drinks and refreshments in the packed rugby clubhouse.

Thanks to Ramsey RUFC - a great bunch of people, especially the ladies who served up the very warmly welcomed refreshments afterwards!
