Profession's ruling body opens case
An Island dentist has been formally charged by the General Dental Council with misconduct and having his fitness to practice impaired.
Nidal Abusara Darwich of Woodbourne Road in Douglas faced a hearing before the GDC's professional conduct committee in London (11 Feb).
The body heard he'd worked as an unregistered dentist in Douglas and failed to declare that period of practice and previous convictions when he re-registered.
The General Dental Council says Mr Darwich worked at the Cosmetic Medical Centre in Douglas in early 2014 despite being removed from the dentists’ register for not paying the annual fee.
He was convicted of drink-driving in Ireland in 2011 and on the Isle of Man in 2012 but the GDC says he failed to declare the convictions when he rejoined the register.
The GDC says such conduct is misleading and dishonest.
Later in 2014, it’s alleged he failed to mention his Irish drink-drive conviction when the council contacted him about his criminal case on the Island.
The GDC hearing into his fitness to practise will announce its findings in due course.
