Keepers fear disease import

Island bee keepers have raised concerns the Isle of Man's disease-free status may be under threat.

Reports that bees have been unlawfully imported are being investigated, amid fears over the arrival of destructive verroa mites.

The Island's 120 bee keepers are anxious to ensure their hives are protected from the disease, which has devastated colonies elsewhere.

The verroa-free status of Manx bee hives has been acknowledged around the world.
