Stakes raised over meat plant claim

Houghton to question DEFA boss in Tynwald

North Douglas MHK John Houghton believes butchers could be driven out of business - if a claim the Meat Plant will start trading as a retailer is true.

He'll ask Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Richard Ronan about the issue in Tynwald tomorrow (TUESDAY).

Mr Houghton was told by a local butcher that the Meat Plant would start selling meat thus competing with other retailers it supplies.

And he says that would do significant damage to the industry:
