Castletown MHK 'thrilled' at news
The redevelopment of the Island's southern secondary school has been confirmed in this year's Manx budget.
Funds have been set aside for preparatory work on a major project to replace Castle Rushen High School.
As a first step, a capital project business case is to be drawn up.
Eddie Teare has confirmed the current facility no longer provides a suitable learning environment for young people.
The education department's largest project in the year ahead is completion of the new Henry Bloom Noble primary school in Douglas, at a cost of ?2.3 million.
Other projects include new classroom schemes at a number of primary schools, additional engineering facilities at Isle of Man College and replacement of equipment at the NSC, destroyed in last December's floods.
Speaking in the budget debate, Mr Ronan said he was thrilled to hear the Treasury minister make a long-term commitment to the Castletown school.
