Two aspiring young sopranos have been chosen to feature in the annual Isle of Man Choral Society conert at the Villa Marina in March. The Society selected Evan Darroch, who is nine years old, and James Spencer who is 14, to sing together the solos in the Requiem, Pie Jesu and Lux Aeterna. They both have fine young pure voices and Julian Power is thrilled to be part of this exciting concert when several innovative features will be present.
The Society is in the final weeks of rehearsals for its annual concert which is being held at the Royal Hall, Villa Marina on March 20th commencing at 2.30pm.
The works to be performed under the baton of Julian Power (Director of Music) are composed by Puccini and Rutter, being Messa di Gloria and Requiem respectively. The profit from the concert will be donated to the charity Beach Buddies.
As in previous concerts the Isle of Man Choral Society is privileged to be singing with the Isle of Man Symphony Orchestra which too has a full programme of concerts in 2016 and Isle of Man Choral Society is grateful to the orchestra led by Tom Field for its continuing support.
The soloists for the concert are Richard Pollock (tenor) and Graham Crowe (bass/baritone) and those of you who attended the Society's last concert of Handel's Messiah in 2015 will remember them well.
These soloists therefore need no introduction. IOMCS is also pleased to announce that the cello solo in movement 2 of Rutter's Requiem will be performed by David Hornberger who played the wonderful solo 'Benedictus' in the Armed Man performed in March 2014.
Bill Dale of Beach Buddies said the charity was 'delighted' to have been selected by the Society to receive a donation from Isle of Man Choral Society which will help with the cleaning of our Island beaches which is needed even more after the recent storms.
Pictured left are Jennifer Bird (IOMCS rehearsal accompanist), James Spencer and Evan Darroch (treble soloists) and Julian Power (Director of Music IOMCS).
