Smoking banned in cars carrying children

Smoking in cars carrying children under 16 years of age is to become illegal as of the 30th March. Fines up to ?5000 could be imposed on both the driver of the vehicle and the person smoking if convicted.

A recent "Please Keep Me Smoke Free" competition was held by the Department of Health & Social Care asking school children to design a poster to promote the initiative to keep cars smokefree.

The winner was Daniel Millward, age 10, from Victoria Road Primary School closely followed by 7 year old Pat McGeown from St Mary's Primary School in second and third prize went to Leela Menon, aged 10, from Rushen Primary.

Daniel's is pictured with his winning design which is to be made into a car sticker. More of the competition entries will sortly be available to view here and other designed are due to be used for posters and leaflets over the coming months.
