Electricity prices to rise

MUA hikes standing charge more than 20%

Average household electricity prices on the Island will go up in the current year by around 85p a month.

In the House of Keys today, Manx Utilities Authority Chairman Alf Cannan said many tariffs would go down which, meaning an overall reduction of electricity prices in real terms.

But standing charges will rise from 15p to 19.5p per day.

South Douglas member Bill Malarkey said it'll mean households will see a small increase in bills.

Mr Cannan told him the MUA was doing what's best for the Island:
