Special treat for Beach Buddies' volunteers

by isleofman.com 2nd March 2016
Beach Buddies volunteers had a wonderful treat in store at the end of their session in the south on Saturday.

We were all invited to enjoy fabulous home-made scones and jam, with chocolate brownies and hot drinks for a group of more than a dozen who had cleaned the beaches at Spaldrick and Fleshwick.

The gesture came from Jill and Phil Manning and their children Bryony, Rhiannon and Alfie who wanted to make a contribution to Beach Buddies for their efforts in keeping the southern beaches free from rubbish.

It was the perfect ending to a very fruitful session at Spaldrick and Fleshwick when 29 volunteers collected 41 bags of rubbish, plus loads of large items like oil drums and fish boxes.

The volunteers included nine new faces, which is always brilliant, including Ben Quirk's three children, ably supervised by grandad Mike. We also had three new faces who have chosen Beach Buddies as the volunteer part of their Duke of Edinburgh award.

All in all, everyone went home with a great sense of satisfaction, and extra happy after the wonderful treat from the Manning family.
