Offence happened in July last year

A man who was aggressive and abusive towards a woman driver after she sounded her car horn at him has been fined £500 by magistrates.

James Kelly of Peel Road in Douglas pleaded guilty to the offence.

The incident happened in July last year on Church Road Marina, Douglas.

The woman had stopped her car and sounded the horn after spotting Kelly in the middle of the road. He then charged at her car and slammed his hands on the bonnet before punching the window and opening one of the doors.

He shouted abuse at the driver before slamming the door and walking off.

His advocate blamed "the evil drink" and said Kelly had little recollection of the event. He was a man of good character who was very remorseful.

Magistrates said the behaviour was unacceptable and in addition to the fine, Kelly was ordered to pay £50 costs.
