Olympic dream seems over for Cav

6th placed finish in Omnium may not be enough

The Rio Olympic dream for Isle of Man cycling superstar Mark Cavendish appears to be over.

That was the stark view of multiple medalist Sir Chris Hoy when asked on BBC television if the Manx Missile had done enough to earn selection after a 6th place finish in the Omnium at the World Track Championships at the London velodrome.

Earlier in the week, British Track Cycling boss Shane Sutton had demanded at least a podium spot to be in with a chance of booking his place for Brazil.

Cav won a number of sprints in the final Points Race but it wasn't enough to get into the medal positions.

Shane Sutton says he will sit down with Cavendish and discuss matters after he has competed in the Kieran with Sir Bradley Wiggins today.
