2nd Ramsey Brownies achieve their Healthy Heart Badges

by isleofman.com 7th March 2016

2nd Ramsey Brownies all worked hard to achieve their Healthy Heart Badges and are now much more aware of why they need to look after their hearts. Over three weeks the Brownies learnt about food labelling and how to find out how much salt, sugar and fat there is in some of the snacks that they eat and the effects that these types of food can have on your heart.

They did a keep fit session with Paul Bradford (Footworks Dance School) which was a lot of fun and they had the chance to listen to their hearts beating by checking their pulses with a Doppler machine. The Brownies also learnt how smoking and lack of exercise can be bad for your heart, and they each designed their own no smoking poster.

Each Brownie Six designed their own ‘Look After Your Heart’ poster which are going to be displayed at various health facilities across the Island. Brownie Leader Sandra Taylor said that the Brownies had enjoyed working for their Healthy Heart Badge and thanked parents Helen Brooks and Ann Corkill who both work for Community Nursing for helping the Brownies gain their award.
