Campsite back in department hands
It's the end of an era at Glen Wyllin.
After 23 years of running the campsite, Michael Commissioners have decided not to renew their five year lease from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.
They have effectively handed the running of the facility back to DEFA.
Commissioners say factors such as finding and training wardens, and the decision to only permit caravans in the Island during TT fortnight and the Festival of Motorcycling means it's no longer financially viable for them to continue running the site.
Chairman Steve Hamer says the Department of Economic Development's encouraging of temporary camp sites for the motorcycling events - which have more relaxed standards applied to them - have also been problematic.
