New Lieutenant Governor

by isleofman.com 8th March 2016
The Isle of Man’s next Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney will be sworn in to office on the morning of Friday 27 May this year.

Sir Richard will succeed His Excellency Adam Wood whose term of office concludes in April. Sir Richard has had a distinguished career in the British Diplomatic Service including service as Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Bermuda.

The Lieutenant Governor is appointed by Her Majesty The Queen as the representative of the Crown in the Isle of Man.

In keeping with tradition the swearing-in ceremony will be conducted by the Island’s First Deemster and Deputy Governor but the venue will be the Isle of Man Courts of Justice. The ceremony has previously been held at the Court Room in Castle Rushen, which is no longer in use and would require significant expenditure to be made ready for the occasion.

In recognition of the Governor’s historic connections with the Island’s ancient capital, Sir Richard’s first official engagement will be a visit to Castletown in the afternoon of May 27 following his swearing-in that morning.

Arrangements for the ceremony have been agreed by a special Swearing-in Committee comprising the President of Tynwald, the First Deemster, the Chief Minister and the Speaker of the House of Keys.
