Hospice IOM issue scam warning

by isleofman.com 10th March 2016
Hospice Isle of Man is warning the Manx public not to be fooled into thinking they are supporting them by donating to an to an organisation called Hospice Aid UK.

A letter from 'Hospice Aid UK has been sent to many homes on the Island ‘marked urgent – respond needed’. Hospice Isle of Man will not in any way benefit from these donations and was totally unaware of this direct marketing campaign until a concerned lady rang them.

Hospice Isle of Man does not use direct mailshots requesting donations. The local charity very much values the donations received and appreciates how supportive the Manx community is to their charity. It is worth noting 85p of every ?1 donated is spent directly on patient care and all services are provided free of charge.

It is worth noting that The Charity Commission in the UK has opened a statutory inquiry into Hospice Aid UK to examine whether the charity is being used for private advantage. This is ongoing.

Head of Income Generation for Hospice said: "We would like to make it clear that Hospice Aid UK it is an organisation with no connection to Hospice Isle of Man.”

She continued: “I would ask people you know locally, who may have received the letter, to bin it. I would also ask everyone to share this message so the public are being duped into sending money.’
