Juries 'need wider range of people'

Rules and exemptions puzzle Law Society president

The president of the Island’s Law Society says he can’t understand why some people are allowed to do jury service while others are ruled out because of their jobs.

Simon Cain has given evidence to a Tynwald select committee into the operation of the Island's jury system, on behalf of the profession. 

Mr Cain told the hearing he didn’t know why some people are told they can serve as jurors while others are exempted from duty.

He told the three MHKs on the committee the system contains unspoken and unexplained categories:
