Committee highly critical of DoI in report

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne has apologised to Tynwald over the dredging of Peel harbour.

The Public Accounts Committee report was highly critical of the department saying it ignored financial regulations when it contracted out the work.

The marina was in danger of becoming unoperational due to a build-up of silt.

Early last year, the marina was dredged and the silt taken to land next to Poortown quarry to be temporarily stored.

The Committee report has been debated in Tynwald and a recommendation to reaffirm the importance of financial regulations being consitently applied in all circumstances was supported.

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne gave a lengthy response defending his department but backed the recommendation of the Committee.
