The British Isle’s premier school of rock and pop is due to open its doors in Douglas this April. For the last 10 years The Rock Project has been inspiring children to learn a musical instrument, and encourages them to perform weekly as part of a band. There are currently 45 schools across the UK and Ireland, and the school on the Island will be run by David and Laura Rowles, who own the music education business, Mannin Music (www.manninmusic.com).The Rock Project is open to students from 7-18 years old, and offers a more affordable way of getting access to high quality musical tuition in guitar, bass, drums and vocals. The school is split into a junior (age 7-11) and senior (age 12-18) session. Beginners and experienced players are all welcome, and you don’t even have to own your own instrument – everything is provided! Each week over the course of 2 hours, all students learn the same song on the instrument of their choice, and then come together to perform the piece as a band. Students also compete in the fiendish rock and pop quiz, and get to learn about music theory and history through fun games.
The Rock Project gives the Island’s young people the chance to have lessons from some of the best musicians and teachers on the Isle of Man. Tutors include Laura Moore (formerly of Twisted Angels), and singer/songwriter Matt Creer, who is soon to play the lead in Jesus Christ Superstar.
David Rowles, lead tutor for the Project says:
‘We’re very excited to be bringing this fantastic opportunity to the Island. At Mannin Music we are passionate about providing a quality musical education for all, and The Rock Project will be an amazing addition to our current services.’Stuart Wynne, founder of The Rock Project says:
‘The Isle of Man is somewhere The Rock Project has been looking to establish a franchise for some time because of its musical history and culture. We had to be sure we had the right people in place to represent our brand, and are really happy that Dave and Laura will be coming on board. 2016 will be an exciting year for The Rock Project and its students, even more so now that we will be launching on the Island!’For more information see
