Waterloo Dock to offer 'improved facilities'

The Manx government says it is in advanced talks with Liverpool authorities over a new landing stage for Steam Packet ferries.

The Packet's agreement to use the current facility at the Pier Head expires at the end of 2016 - and is in need of replacement.

Reports from Liverpool suggest the city's mayor wants to move the Manx ferry operation up river to the north end of Waterloo Docks, to make way for a cruise ship terminal opposite the Liver Building.

The Pier Head facility owned by Peel Ports, has provided a valued link between the Island and Liverpool city centre for many decades.

Infrastructure minister Phil Gawne is due to discuss the relocation with the Mayor of Liverpool next week.

He insists the Waterloo Dock proposal offers an improved passenger terminal, only a short distance away:
