Union rejects pension reforms

Prospect hostile to latest proposals

A union representing 2,000 public sector staff in the Island says it won't support plans for sweeping pension reforms.

Prospect has described proposals from the Public Sector Pensions Authority for staff to pay higher contributions for reduced future benefits, as a 'disaster'.

The authority will put a package of changes to make pensions more affordable for the taxpayer long-term, to Tynwald next month.

They're backed by a majority of staff unions - but not Prospect or the Prison Officers Association.

Prospect represents a range of admin, technical, manual, health, social care and energy workers.

Negotiations officer Angela Moffatt says despite many months of talks with the employers' side, the union cannot accept the latest reforms:
