People interested in standing as candidates in next month’s Local Authority general election are reminded they must submit their nomination papers by 5pm on Tuesday 5 April.A total of 150 Commissioners and Councillors are needed to serve 22 different town, village, district and parish authorities in the Isle of Man.
Voting will take place on Thursday 28 April in those districts or wards where there is a contest for the vacant seats.
Nomination papers and guidance for prospective candidates is available from Local Authority clerks. A full list of clerks and their contact addresses is included in a Notice of Election published by the Department of Infrastructure and available on the
Government website and via
Facebook.
The notice highlights the number of Commissioners and Councillors required in each Local Authority district or ward. It also sets out the deadline dates people need to be aware of if they are intending to submit an absent vote.
Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne MHK is encouraging people to become actively involved in local politics and make their voices heard on issues that affect daily life in the Isle of Man.
Mr Gawne said:
‘Local Authority general elections only come around once every four years and provide a perfect opportunity for people to have a say in how their communities are run. I would urge anyone who is thinking of standing for election to take the next step and submit their nomination papers before the 5 April deadline.’
