Investment needed - but only with care

The largest support group for the Island's steam railways says it will be keeping a close eye on how £1.1 million is spent on upgrading Douglas railway station.

Tynwald approved the Infrastructure Department's plan to improve the station buildings and facilities.

The Isle of Man Steam Railway Supporters Association has welcomed the investment, but says any refurbishments must be respect the site's unique character.

The group says heritage transport is a key part of the Island's tourism appeal - and inappropriate development risks spoiling its value.

Chairman Bill Cubbon says it's a difficult line to walk:
