Coast Bar and Brasserie has secured the talents of two distinctive and distinguished musicians for an innovative series of fine dining and live jazz evenings beginning in April.
Friday Jazz at Coast will feature Argentinian saxophonist Ariel Amoedo, who has recently moved to the Island from Spain. He will be accompanied by local virtuoso David Holland on the piano and diners at the Brasserie will enjoy two hours of live music each week from the duo.
Originally from Mendoza, Ariel Amoedo studied clarinet from the age of 14 and completed a music degree at the National University of Cuyo where he also learned to play the saxophone under the instruction of Ricardo Guinazu.
He has played with numerous bands in blues and music festivals both in Argentina and Chile and also spent time working as a studio session artist.
More recently he has spent several years bringing jazz music to the bars and restaurants of the Costa Tropical in Granada, working with some well-known names, including the vocalist PP Arnold, previously a backing singer of Tina Turner.
David Holland is well-known in Manx music circles having been musical director of more than fifty musicals at the Gaiety Theatre including Chicago, West Side Story, Grease, Rocky Horror Show and The Full Monty. David has a BA in Jazz from Leeds College of Music and teaches guitar, piano, saxophone, clarinet and singing.
He has played piano all over the world and currently works with a number of choirs including Roc Vannin and the Civil Service Choir. Past pupils have included Samantha Barks, for whom he wrote and produced an album, and Simon Lynch who was recently featured on the X Factor.
Iva Kuzmanova, General Manager at Coast, said: “We are delighted to bring Carlos and David together to provide an evening of fine dining and live, laid back jazz – the perfect combination to celebrate the end of the working week! We expect these to be very popular events and suggest people book early to avoid disappointment.”
