Double Decker Bus Fire

by isleofman.com 29th March 2016

On 24 March at 22.37hrs two appliances from Ramsey were dispatched to a double decker bus involved in fire at Ballabane on the coast road between Smeale and Bride. The bus had been converted to accommodation and was static at Ballabane.

Firefighters used two hose reels and a 9metre ladder to extinguish the fire, which is believed to have been caused by a faulty flue from a wood burning stove on board the bus. The vehicle suffered severe damage to the top deck. Crews were in attendance for approximately one hour damping down the scene.

In this instance both smoke and carbon monoxide detectors were present in the bus, smoke detectors give early warning in the event of fire and with any solid fuel or gas appliances we would recommend the installation of carbon monoxide detection.
