In March 2016, the Rotary Club of Rushen & Western Mann was pleased to give a ?500 donation to Charity Excellent Development to support its work of help local communities in Kenya build Sand Dams.

President of Rotary Club of Rushen & Western Mann said:

"At a recent meeting we heard from Manx born Simon Maddrell about Excellent Development, which is a not for profit organisation that supports rural, dryland communities to work their way out of poverty with dignity. It works with local partners to support communities to build sand dams, which provide clean water for life, and the opportunity to grow more food to eat, store and sell. We were so impressed by how Sand Dams empower communities, putting their future firmly in their own hands, that club members overwhelming supported this donation, which we believe will dramatically transform the lives of a local community in Kenya.

Supporting Excellent Development build Sand Dams is yet another example of how the Rotary Club of Rushen & Western Mann is standing up for local communities, by supporting those who need help. In doing we strive to improve lives and bring about positive change in the world. This is because as part of Rotary we believe that society works better when communities work together."
