March figures: lowest number of unemployed since 2009

Figures released relating to the Island's labour market show that there was 794 persons registered as unemployed at the end of March 2016; the lowest March figure for 7 years.

There was a decrease in unemployed people by 34 persons over the previous month (February 2016).

203 persons signed onto the unemployment register during the month; whilst 237 left the register.

Other key figures include:

• 69% of the unemployed are male (549) and 31% are female (245).
• 842 vacancies were notified to the Job Centre during the month.
• 135 persons are classed as being long-term unemployed.
• 34% of the long-term unemployed (46 persons) are aged under 30.
• 32 people have been registered as unemployed for four years or more.
