Knew plans would ultimately fail

The Lord Bishop says he is content plans to reform the chief minister election process have been rejected – even though he voted in favour of the move.

Robert Paterson was one of two members of the Legislative Council who supported a bid to ban MLCs from the voting process.

However, LegCo members opposed the proposals 6-2 after they’d been supported in the publicly elected House of Keys.

Bishop Robert says despite backing the move, he knew it would ultimately be unsuccessful in the upper house now a review has begun into the overall parliamentary structure.
