Councillor John Faragher has donated a set of Collins guides on behalf of the Society for the Preservation of the Manx Countryside and Environment to the Henry Bloom Noble Library.

Councillor Faragher, who gave a talk at the library on April 11 about foraging, said: 'I'm pleased to present the library with a set of the Collins Identification Guides to kick-start the society’s assistance in producing an excellent reference section for all the budding countryside explorers out there and hopefully helping the future custodians of the countryside to gain knowledge for the island around us.'

The books are in the reference collection on the lower ground floor of the library. Titles offered in the starter collection are:

• Stars and Planets;
• Tree Guide;
• Butterfly Guide;
• Fungi Guide;
• Flower Guide;
• Bird Guide.
