by isleofman.com 22nd April 2016
Ramsey’s dedicated volunteer RNLI crew are busy organising plenty of activities over the early-May bank holiday weekend, to mark the RNLI charity’s annual national fundraising campaign - MAYDAY.

The weekend will kick-off on Friday 29 April at Ballacloan Football Clubhouse with a MAYDAY quiz, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are ?5 per head and include food; teams are up to six people. For further details and to book a place please call Ramsey RNLI Lifeboat Station on 812169 during working hours.

On Saturday 30 April the crew will be sporting their yellow wellies and washing cars from 12 noon until 4 pm on East Quay, Ramsey. They will be on hand not only with their sponges washing cars but also to chat about the RNLI and the role its lifeboats play in saving lives at sea. It is rumored that the RNLI’s very own megastar, Stormy Stan, will be in attendance helping to serve refreshments and take donations. The Northern Spirit Baton Twirlers will open the car wash with a short performance at 12 noon.

Later, on the Saturday evening at 7pm, some of the world famous Purple Helmets Stunt Team will stage a performance on East Quay, Ramsey for the Mayday appeal.

On bank holiday Monday, 2 May, the Manx Grass & Sand Racing Motorcycle Club will display their skills from around 12 noon until 4 pm with a special RNLI Mayday beach racing session on the South Beach Ramsey, near to Ramsey RNLI Lifeboat Station. Refreshments will be available inside the Lifeboat House.

The iconic and much sought after RNLI Yellow Welly pin badges will be available at all the weekend’s events.

The RNLI’s Mayday campaign launches on Tuesday 26 April and runs through to the May Day bank holiday on Monday 2 May, with street collections and fundraising events taking place around the Isle of Man, UK and Ireland. Many of the Mayday fundraising events have a yellow welly theme, in a nod to the essential kit that the RNLI’s lifeboat crew members wear on their feet when they go out to sea to save lives.
