Anglers can now keep track of their successes in local rivers and reservoirs using a free app.
Ecosourcer allows anglers to record and view details of their catches, including photos, using smart phones or similar devices.
The app will share the information with the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture’s fisheries officers.
For river anglers, it will provide a convenient alternative to submitting a paper catch return to DEFA at the end of the season.
Information uploaded to the app will not be visible to other anglers.
Ecosourcer was developed by local company Fuzzelogic Solutions and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Richard Ronan MHK, Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture, said: ‘The app will make it easier for anglers to keep their own records, so there will no longer be “the one that got away”.
‘It will provide us with data that can be used in management and conservation of freshwater fisheries.
‘Developed in line with the Isle of Man Government’s Digital Strategy, we hope it will prove popular with the many locals and visitors who take advantage of our picturesque rivers and well-stocked reservoirs to pursue their hobby.’
More information on freshwater fishing on the Island can be obtained on the fisheries pages on www.gov.im or by ringing 01624 685857.
