Annual ceremony in Douglas

Police officers who’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty have been recognised at a special ceremony today.

The Chief Constable's Annual Awards took place at the Gaiety Theatre in Douglas on Wednesday afternoon.

As well as long service medals, the event also celebrated officers who’ve dealt with some of the most serious incidents on the Island over the last 12 months.

Chief Constable Gary Roberts presented commendations to Lana Gardner and Ben Horan who saved a life during the severe flooding last December.

Breeshey Craine and Pam Robinson, meanwhile, were given commendations for wrestling a knife away from a vulnerable person, and Tony Lawler received his for preventing a vulnerable person from drowning.

John Paul Glover was presented with a Chief Constable’s Commendation for saving life of boy who was thrown into the water in Douglas bay from a bouncy castle last year.

Alison Bunn was given an award for tending to critically injured TT star Jamie Hamilton.
