It is just over one year since a massive earthquake shook Nepal. The 7.8 magnitude quake killed over 9,000 people and injured more than 23,000 in what is one of the world’s poorest countries.

Since then, the Pahar Trust Nepal, an Isle of Man based charity, has continued in its efforts to improve education standards in the country whilst also aiding the earthquake relief effort -through emergency aid and the provision of temporary shelter. The catastrophic earthquake affected a total of 8,242 public schools, with over 26,000 classrooms being fully destroyed and another 26,000 classrooms being partially demolished. In collaboration with the Nepalese people, the Pahar Trust is endeavouring to rebuild as many destroyed and dangerously unstable schools as possible.

Partnering with the U.K.’s leading international challenge organisation, Charity Challenge, the Pahar Trust are now able to offer a unique opportunity to groups and individuals who wish to join in their efforts to provide Nepalese students with a safe and pleasant environment in which to learn.

Charity Challenge is a multi-award winning travel company specialising in raising funds for good causes. Starting in February next year, Charity Challenge will be organising a series of Community Challenge trips to Nepal. This will be a fantastic opportunity for motivated individuals to join a team of volunteers and put their heart and sweat into what will be one of the most rewarding experiences Charity Challenge offer. Volunteers will provide a helping hand to communities in desperate need of a safe place to learn by helping to construct a Pahar Trust school. The trips will last for ten days and volunteers will stay within the community they are helping.

Volunteers will work alongside a team of expert craftsmen and labourers, and will enjoy an experience that will open their eyes to the plight of those who do not have the basics that most of us take for granted. It will be a physical and emotional experience, and will provide an understanding of poverty and the effect it can have on family life. All it takes to participate in the challenge is enthusiasm, a willingness to do whatever is needed and a desire to help make a difference to the lives of the community whose school you will be building. Currently four trips are planned during 2017 and volunteers will raise funds for the Pahar Trust Nepal prior to their departure.

Voted “Best Challenge Company” in the Institute of Fundraising Awards in both 2013 and 2014, Charity Challenge were selected by Comic Relief to run their celebrity overseas challenges (BT Red Nose Day Kilimanjaro Climb and Hell and High Water challenge in Zambezi).

Established in 1993, The Pahar Trust Nepal has constructed seventy-eight schools in remote and economically poor areas of Nepal. Two highly experienced ex-British Gurkha army officers lead the Nepalese branch of he charity; ensuring construction is completed to an extremely high standard. In addition to schools, the charity has completed over fifty related projects, including water projects, hostels, school renovations and health posts, having a significant impact on the standard of living of many people.
