Mayor gets ‘up close and personal’ to Davis Cup trophy

by isleofman.com 28th April 2016
The Mayor of Douglas Councillor Sara Hackman had the opportunity to get up ‘close and personal’ to the Davis Cup, after it was displayed at Douglas Lawn Tennis Club as part of the Lawn Tennis Association’s trophy tour of the UK following the British Davis Cup team’s win in November 2015, the first time for 79 years.

To mark the event an inaugural Davis Cup-style competition was held at the Kensington Road club, with teams from four island clubs, Albany, Castletown, Douglas and Ramsey, competing for the Champions’ Legacy Cup.

Winners were Castletown Lawn Tennis Club whose team included one of the youngest players on the day, 12-year-old Scott Mason, who was presented with the cup by the mayor.
