The Board of Port St Mary Commissioners, at it’s meeting on 28th April committed to an Armed Forces Military Covenant. This covenant recognises the difficulties faced by Forces personnel whether trying to hold civilian jobs in tandem with a military career in the reserves or returning to their community on the completion of a term in the forces.
Port St Mary Commissioners Chairman, Mrs Bernadette Williams said, “This covenant is very important to our Commissioners. We are committing to ensuring that no returning member of the military should face any disadvantage in comparison with other citizens when it comes to accessing our services. Beyond this, there may be cases, such as the injured or the bereaved who deserve special consideration.
We have always been a “forces-friendly” organisation and this covenant cements that commitment in perpetuity.”
Signing the Covenant on behalf of the Military, Major Glen Espie said, “Creating a harmonious pathway between civilian life and forces commitments is key to having forces who can concentrate on the demands put on them without worrying about their life and jobs beyond the forces. This covenant provides evidence that civilian organisations value their forces and are committed working to along side them.”
