Paul wins Cleveland medal

Bass solo finalist takes top honour

The Guild’s top prize – the Cleveland medal – has been won by Paul Costain from Rushen.

 

He won his place in the final by winning the Special Bass Solo voice class earlier in the week and sang two pieces – a piece of his own choice, and set test piece The Lute Player by Frances Allitsen.

 

Tonight sees the other big prize at the Manx Competitive Music, Speech and Dance Festival - the Sheffield Plate.

 

Afterwards he told Judith Ley he'd never expected to win - because he'd been so busy elsewhere as he prepared for the contest:
