Conditional discharge for cannabis teen

Eighteen-year-old had ?30 worth of the drug

An 18-year-old Douglas man caught with less than six grammes of cannabis resin has been given a conditional discharge.

Ciaran Illiam Kaighin, of Tynwald Street, admitted two charges of possessing the drug.

He was stopped and searched by police on Crellin's Hill in Douglas not long after midnight on Sunday, April 10.

They found 5.1g of the drug, valued at around £26 by police.

A search of a flat on Church Road Marina he was moving out of at the time uncovered another 0.6g, valued at £3.17.

Kaighin has been given a 12-month conditional discharge by Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

He was also ordered to pay £125 costs, which will be deducted from his benefits at a rate of £5 per week.
