Kewaigue Primary School pupils are utilising the latest technology to enhance their curriculum studies. Virtual reality headsets are giving children immersive experiences that help them appreciate different places all around the world to inspire their curriculum studies.
Adrian Shorthouse, Headteacher, said: ‘As part of our vision for the school, staff, governors and parents expressed a desire to give pupils greater opportunities to engage in technology projects that enrich children’s learning experiences. This technology means that children can visit places all over the world and look around as if they were really there. The impact of this latest technology on their learning has been remarkable. Children are being inspired to discuss and write about real and imaginary worlds having experienced them virtually.’
Class teacher Michelle Mylchreest said: ‘Children are currently studying the Antarctic as part of an explorers and adventurers topic. The ability to look around their world in this way means that children can become fully immersed in the environment they are learning about in a way that they are unable to be through books or even websites. We have found that once the children have visited these locations virtually, they are enthusiastic to put pen to paper and their writing has become much more descriptive.'
