New book features unseen Manx Electric Railway photos

by isleofman.com 17th May 2016
A new book featuring historic images of the Manx Electric Railway uniquely set next to modern photos taken from the same places is now available from book shops and gift shops throughout the Island.

"Manx Electric Railway; Past & Present" by George Hobbs came about after he was lucky enough to be loaned archive photographs, many of which had not been published before.

"Memory plays tricks on you and it is amazing how much has changed in the half century or so covered by the photographs. Edwardian rolling stock dwarfed by a 'modern' building which has since been demolished; antique vehicles trundling through countryside which is now a housing estate. Ironically the old rolling stock seems to be the only thing which has stayed the same."

George will be signing copies of his new book at The Tram Junction, Whitehouse Close (behind the tram station), Laxey from 11.00am on Saturday 21 May.
